The Sullivan Chamber & Economic Development has been working with the city to ensure that Sullivan is a great place to live, work and play.
The SCED has an active retention and expansion program to support all businesses in their endeavors to succeed and grow. New businesses are always welcome and should call 217-728-2684 for information on available properties, new business resources and incentive information.
The SCED Chamber Committee is working on a variety of promotions, events and training opportunities for our members. The Downtown Retailers group has planned a series of promotional events throughout 2009 to entice shoppers to come out and buy.
The Renovation and Enhancement Committee (REC) continues to support the city as construction for our IDOT Streetscape Enhancement program will begin in spring 2009.
Several downtown properties have been renovated due to TIF money that the City allocated for facade improvements through the Historic Downtown Facade program. Nine buildings have been completed to date and there are currently nineteen more in the pipeline to begin construction.
The city has also appointed a Parking Task Force in the summer of 2008 to evaluate parking in the downtown. Current plans are underway to upgrade the city's three municipal parking lots to increase the number of parking spaces, make the lots cleaner and safer and introduce green space into the downtown.
